Mwah! Far from the Maddening Crowd...
A Place to Go
Club
Mwah lends a different meaning to entertainment. When all the other night venues
have enlisted themselves in a free-for-all competition. Club Mwah, nestled on
the third floor of The Venue Tower on Boni Avenue in Mandaluyong, which is
a cross between New York's Studio 54 and Las Vega's Caesars Palace opted to veer
away from the meelee, deviating from the natural course but not at random, popping
up a colorful, if magical, feast of music, dance and costumes. Inside, it was
the night of "Bedazzled I," a revue that features take-offs from different
Broadway shows, films and concerts, an effort that should make the National Commissfon
for the Arts sit up and watch, and perhaps consider giving it much-needed support.

Like
a big kiss, Club Mwah resounds! You hear it right amidst a line of characterless
business establishment, a pair of larger-than-life, look-alike statues of a Grecian
woman raising a lamp with satellite globes stands. They look as if they are there
to grab attention for the Venue Tower, the stone-and-glass structure owned by
Pocholo Malillin and Cris Nicolas. For sure, the pair gives color to an otherwise
drab avenue. Now on its second
season,"Bedazzled 2" comes a notch higher that the first "Bedazzled.
" Truly, the jaw-dropping first sequence would dwarf Hollywood movies sing-and-dance
scenes with its Indian-inspired choreography. The next numbers heighten more the
excitement, as the show brings us to Broadway ('All That Jazz"), with takes
from Bjork concert on the trial, a medley of song from Diana Ross and the Supremes,
Pointer Sisters, and even the most updated Destiny's Child. The "diamond
medley" will surely put you in awe as "Marilyn Monroe" dish out
"Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "Nicole Kidman" recreates a
scene from "Moulin Rogue." The finale, which pulsates with Batucada
music, renders a festive mood, a climatic ending which caps the night. The light
and sounds continue to bedazzle the audience, as the performers take a bow, then,
step down the stage to come to the audience for a hand-shake and afford to see
their up close charm. Bedazzled
