| A
more bedazzling Bedazzled 2 at Club Mwah CLUB
Mwah lends a different meaning to entertainment. When
all other night venues have enlisted themselves in a free-for-all competition,
Club Mwah, opted to veer away from meelee, deviating from a natural course but
not at random, popping up a colorful, if magical, feast of music, dance and costumes. It
was not even a weekend, but the spirits were in denial of another stressful office
work the next day. Outside,
the facade was so invite-looking like hard-to-resist temptress. Inside,
it was the night of "Bedazzled 2," a revue that features take-offs from
different Broadway shows, films and concerts, an effort that should make the National
Commissions for the Arts sit up and watch, and perhaps consider giving it much-needed
support. Club Mwah may not
come to close to Bally Hotel in Las Vegas in its entirety, but "Bedazzled
2" tries to bring it closer, as the longest ravue, "Jubilee" comes
alive with its play of lights and sounds ang most importantly, save for its headcount,
the superb performers who are truly world-class. Now
on its second season, "Bedazzled 2" comes a notch higher than the first
"Bedazzled." Truly,
the jaw-dropping first sequence could dwarf Bollywood movies sing-and-dance scenes
with its Indian-inspired choreography. But
the next numbers heighten more the excitement, as the show brings us to Broadway
("All That Jazz"), with takes from Bjork concert on the trail, a medley
of songs from Diana Ross and the Supremes, Pointer Sisters, and even the most
updated Destiny's Child. The
"diamond medley" will surely put you in awe as "marilyn Monroe"
dish out "Gentlemen Prefer Dlondes" and "Nicole Kidman" recreates
a scene from "Moulin Rouge." The
finale, which pulsates with Batucada music, renders a festive mood, a climactic
ending which caps the night. The
lights and sounds continue to bedazzle the audience, as the performers take a
bow, then, step down the stage tocome to the audience for a hand shake and afford
them to see their upclose charm. No
surprise then why the crowd looking for a different ambience flock Club Mwah.
It's really bedazzling, inside and out. "You
should also see 'Follies de Mwah' next time," Pocholo says in parting as
we headed for the elevator. "That's another show you shouldn't miss. Different
from 'Bedazzled' which has a character of its own." That
should be another story. -- Eugene E. Asis
