As Ever There
must be something about the performances in Club Mwah in Mandaluyong that attracts,
like magnet as it were, movie idols such as Aga Muhlach and Sam Milby, to it. Aga
and Sam, two peas on a apod, on two separate occasions, were among the special
celebrity guests of the snazzy club when it ran a sneak preview recently of its
forthcoming productions.
Unveiled
was Bedazzled 7, the latest installment in a highly-acclaimed series of hit shows
at Club Mwah. The show features the club's line-up of extremely talented singers
and dancers who are as adept at mimicry as they are with displaying their terpsichorean
skills. What to expect in
Bedazzled 7? Vice president Pocholo Malillin takes pride in a blonde version of
Minnie Ripperton putting to sleep her Blue Magic Baby to the birit song Loving
You. There are also Sister Act, Goldfinger, the Korean Sakura Flower Festival,
Mama Moton, the operatic aria of Pitimini, etc.
All
these numbers says Pocholo, are rendered in time-precision succession and quick
set changes. Pocholo says
the combination of grandeur and artistry has earned for Club Mwah its reputation
as the home of Broadway-Las Vegas inspired shows in the country. The club recently
won an award from Asian Gem and Tourism Federation for artistic excellence in
tourism-oriented shows. Pocholo
runs Club Mwah in partnership with and old friend, Chris Nicolas, who continues
to show his passion for dancing to this day. Nicolas,
who takes care of costumes and over-all production design, says the two of them
are quite particular about detail. This is evident in the choice of wigs, uniformly-styled
shoes, feathers, head-dresses, rhinestone-studded gowns that they ask their dancers
to wear. At the end of every
number, guests usually end up with a sigh. The likes of former First Lady Imelda
Marcos, Ogie Alcasid, Sharon Cuneta, and Piolo Pascual, who have seen the lavish
productions at Club Mwah, can attest to this. Club
Mwah is located at the 3rd level of The Venue Tower along Boni Ave. in Mandaluyong
City. back
