| Razzle dazzle at Club Mwah!
by Maryo B. Labad Asia
and the Philippines' multi-awarded (Outstanding Theater Bar) Club Mwah! is the
country's answer to Caesar's Palace of Las Vegas and Studio 54 of New York. Club
Mwah! has become a favorite party place among showbiz denizens and other famous
celebrities. This
year, the club features Bedazzled 5!, a never-seen-before Broadway- and Las Vegas-inspired
extravaganza. "The pacing is faster this time and the change of sets is seamless;
you won't have the slightest idea that you're watching another production number,"
says Pocholo Malillin, a partner and vice president of Club Mwah!

If
you're a Madonna fan, you will enjoy the "Who's that Girl" number, where
beautifully gowned damsels regale the audience in their most elegant gowns and
masks. Then it segues to the hilarious spoof version of Maria's "I Feel Pretty,"
from the musicale "West Side Story."
In
"Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" full outlandish production, it ends
up with the dancers actually holding a huge diamond. The spoof on "The Little
Mermaid (Under the Sea)" is hilarious, followed by a spoof of Titanic where
scenes of the movie are presented, complete with the ship and the ever haunting
theme song "My Heart Will Go On," plus the presence of the wacky mermaids
jumping on their tails to compete for the attention of a handsome Sailor and King
Kong. A
Jennifer Lopez dead ringer does an interpretation of "Waiting for Tonight,"
complete with the J.Lo trademark bumps and grinds.
Then
the "Samba" number is a feast for the eyes with the colorful costumes
and props, reminiscent of the Mardi Gras festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After
that, an elegant Queen Nefertiti comes out with a whole phalanx of slaves and
soldiers doing their extraordinary dance number against a backdrop of a giant
pyramid and sphinx. Eartha
Kitt is a hit in a serious "Phantom of the Opera" number. Another fantastic
production number is the gold, fuchsia and black in full "Cabaret" sequence,
reminiscent of the glamorous era in the '40s and '50s, just like the theaters
of Moulin Rouge and Broadway.
As
Club Mwah! moves on to its second year of grandeur and entertainment, partners
Cris Nicolas (artistic director) and Pocholo keep on concocting fabulous production
numbers for the viewing delight and visual satisfaction of both its foreign and
prestigious corporate and well-heeled clients.
